Kevin Doyle: Wolves can catch league leaders

Kevin Doyle today vowed Wolves will catch League One's runaway top two.

Third-placed Wolves lost ground on the teams above them on Saturday when their 1-1 home draw against Coventry was bettered by leaders Orient's 4-0 win at Tranmere, while Molineux old boy Nathaniel Mendez-Laing's 20-yard winner gave Peterborough three points at home to Shrewsbury.

The results mean second-placed Posh have a five-point advantage over Wolves and Orient six, although Kenny Jackett's side have a game in hand on both. But striker Doyle is convinced Wolves, who host Oldham tomorrow night while Orient visit Coventry and Posh welcome Sheffield United, will catch the top two.

"It's a long season and the teams above us will drop points at some stage so it's up to us to then hopefully pick up some more," he said.

"We have to be satisfied with what we've picked up so far. You can't worry too much this early about what other teams are doing. We've only lost one league game and have won eight before Saturday.

"Losing only one by this stage is normally very good with the points tally."

Wolves get the chance to make up the ground tomorrow night with their second game of three in eight days.

But Doyle isn't moaning at the schedule after their first league match in two weeks, saying: "It's a bit non-stop but that's the way it is.

"If you haven't played in the internationals you go into Saturday's game in a slightly different physical shape than if you have. But it's a sign of a good squad when you have senior and Under-21 internationals involved and we can't complain.

"All footballers love playing and hopefully I'll be back out there tomorrow."

Doyle is convinced Wolves should have made it four league wins in a row after Leigh Griffiths's eighth goal of the season gave them the lead before substitute Aaron Phillips's 86th-minute equaliser saw them concede for the first time in 467 minutes.

"We probably did just enough to win," he said.

"But Coventry are a good team and finished strongly and were buzzing after their goal.

"When you concede late on to draw it often feels like a loss but we got a point against a good side."

Midfielder Jack Price came off in the first half with blurred vision.
