Kenny Jackett urges Wolves to welcome Brentford challenge

Kenny Jackett today urged his Wolves players to embrace and enjoy the challenge of this weekend's clash with League One table-toppers Brentford.

The Molineux head coach watched his team extend their winning run to five games with Saturday's 2-0 win over Notts County.

But still the club's League One promotion quest remains tough to call with leaders Brentford stretching their unbeaten run to 19 games and third-placed Leyton Orient looking to leapfrog Wolves with a home game against Stevenage tomorrow.

That puts Jackett's League One promotion favourites under added pressure as they get ready for the game of the season so far at Griffin Park on Saturday – but the head coach wants his players to 'front up'.

Jackett said: "The Brentford game is one to look forward to right now. We have to look forward to what is a big challenge and be enthusiastic about it.

"After that the period comes when we have all the games and need everyone to be tuned-in mentally to do the job when they are called upon.

"If that tests our squad and it tests our ability to take the right loan at the right time, then we have to do it through that period because the stakes are so high.

"Looking at it we have a very good opportunity to do that.

"We have improved our football during the season, but Orient are still very much in it as are Preston and Rotherham.

"With the amount of games still to be played, and when there are nine points to play for in an eight-day period, things can very quickly turn around.

"It is very easy for a side at the top to maybe get two draws out of three games and then things swing around.

"There is certainly not enough of a gap for us to be saying we have got away. We are just in a good position to capitalise and look at our own games and what we do rather than hope for other teams to slip up."

Jackett is hopeful that heel-injury victim Leon Clarke will be fit for the weekend.
