Jones frustrated by Cardiff

Former Wolves boss Dave Jones finds himself preaching patience to the Cardiff fans after a frustrating start to the season.

Former Wolves boss Dave Jones finds himself preaching patience to the Cardiff fans after a frustrating start to the season.

The Bluebirds have won just once in seven games Ð a record that was made worse with an undeserved 1-0 defeat at Southampton on Sunday.

It is not the start they expected after a summer spent luring big name former England internationals Trevor Sinclair and Robbie Fowler - not to mention Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

All are set to play tonight, along with returning skipper Darren Purse, and boss Jones is looking for a change of fortune for his struggling side.

"It is a lack of concentration and that is frustrating because we're giving away goals that we shouldn't be giving away," he said.

"We should be higher. We're very close to getting things right but people have to be patient at the club.

"It's no good to keep chopping and changing and by that I mean players, staff, management and directors. You have to lay foundations and that is what we've done at this football club.

"We've come a very long way in a short time and people should remember that."

Jones had success in his last meeting with his old club - completing a league double with a 2-1 win at Molineux to back up a 4-0 victory in Wales last time.

The manager will hope for more of the same - but he insists the presence of his former club will have no bearing on the result.

"It never bothered me playing against former teams. I did a decent job when I was there but couldn't keep them up because of circumstances and probably left them in a better shape than when I got the job.

"Who I'm playing doesn't really concern me - they're now my former club."

Jones is turning to his experienced men to guide Cardiff through a turbulent period.

"We have three or four players capable of winning matches on their own. Wolves have their own match winners and it's going to be a real test of us," he said.

"They're doing very well in the league but no-one gets promotion after eleven games."
