Coventry City's Leon Clarke hands in transfer request amid Wolves link

Former Wolves striker Clarke handed in a transfer request today after being linked with a return to Molineux.

The Wolverhampton-born striker, who is League One's top scorer this season with 18 goals, pulled out of yesterday's 2-2 draw against Crawley with a groin strain.

Sky Blues development director Steve Waggott said: "I have this morning received a transfer request from Leon Clarke.

"He has a year-and-a-half left on his contract so we will only let him leave if the deal is right for Coventry."

Wolves sold the 28-year-old to Sheffield Wednesday for £300,000 in January 2007.

Signing two strikers could leave question marks over Leigh Griffiths and Kevin Doyle, as well as Bjorn Sigurdarson.

Griffiths could be a target for Celtic, whose attacking midfielder Callum McGregor, 20 – who has scored 10 goals on loan at Notts County this season – is also on Wolves' radar.
