Collins was Wolves' hero as his 81st minute header proved the difference against Doncaster in a 1-0 win that saw his side go seven points clear at the top of the Championship.

The 25-year-old was a late call-up after Michael Mancienne was hit by a migraine.

But the former Sunderland stopper proved a huge hit, and was Wolves' man of the match.

Iwelumo said: "I just hope the international scene opens up for him, because I think he could be a fantastic asset to the Scotland squad.

"I think I'll send a wee text to George Burley – I'll definitely bring his name up because he's been immense. Hopefully he gets into the squad because he deserves it."

Despite turning 30 in August, Iwelumo has won two full caps this season as reward for his 15 goals and is hoping Collins can follow him into Burley's thoughts.

The striker said: "Neill is different class. Every day in training, he's spot-on. He works his socks off and I thought he was immense on Saturday. He's the ultimate professional – he shows desire and determination – he's a proper Jock!"

Collins' performance has left boss Mick McCarthy with a dilemma on wheth er to pick him for the Boxing Day clash at home to Sheffield United, before Mancienne's loan expires after Blackpool away on December 29.

Iwelumo believes there is more to come from Wolves after their third successive win and clean sheet.

He said: "If you take me out, the average age is about 22 or 23 so we've got the legs."
