Two arrested and cash seized as police shut down suspected brothel near Stourbridge

Police said the premises in Wordsley is “no longer operating following the eviction of the people involved”

A man and woman have been arrested and a “large amount of cash seized” after a police raid on a suspected brothel near Stourbridge.

Officers from West Midlands Police’s Dudley serious organised crime and exploitation team (SOCEX) raided an address in High Street, Wordsley, early on Tuesday (October 27).

Cash was recovered and two people were arrested a short time later from addresses in Birmingham.

A 41-year-old man and 44-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of offences relating to controlling a brothel and exploitation. Both have been bailed with strict conditions, West Midlands Police said.

The force said the premises in Wordsley is “no longer operating following the eviction of the people involved”.

Sergeant Natalie Taylor of Dudley’s SOCEX team said: “We will always endeavour to take action against these types of premises and protect and safeguard vulnerable people who are involved.

“We’ll keep working to help make our communities safer places to live, work, and visit and we’re grateful to those who share information with us that helps us take action to protect the people of Dudley.”

The warrant is part of Operation Machinize, an ongoing National Crime Agency-coordinated project to tackle money laundering and criminal use of cash-intensive high street businesses.
