West Brom youngsters thrash Borussia Dortmund on way to tournament victory

West Brom's U13s have proven that talent runs deep at the academy, thrashing German giants Borussia Dortmund on their way to a European tournament victory.

Albion retained the Ostroda Cup in Poland, winning seven and drawing one of the round robin before beating SMS Lodz 1-0 in the final between the top two teams.

The highlights included a 4-0 rout over Dortmund, and a volley from Tom Fellows, but academy manager Mark Harrison has warned about getting carried away with the result.

"Obviously we're delighted when we go overseas and win a tournament," said Harrison.

"It's not the first one this year. We've won two or three to be honest with you.

"But we like to keep things on an even keel. Winning things helps develop players in some aspects but it's not the most important thing.

"I don't think Jonathan Leko won a tournament with all his time in the youth teams.

"Its nice to go abroad, it's nice to win tournaments, but it's all part of a long term development plan.

"Ultimately, if we don't produce players from that team for the first team then that experience is wasted."
