West Brom target Felix Horn Myhre set for medical after final game

SK Brann have confirmed a statement about the midfielder’s future.

Albion target Felix Horn Myhre is set for a medical after playing his final game for SK Brann on Sunday evening, his club have confirmed.

The Baggies have advanced in their pursuit of the talented Norway international and reports in the midfielder’s homeland state Myhre is bound for the Black Country to undergo his medical and conclude a transfer.

Albion formalised their approach for the 27-year-old with a bid on Friday after interest in the Brann talisman’s signature emerged earlier last week.

Myhre will play against Rosenborg in the top flight Eliteserien on Sunday night (6.15pm kick-off) in what will be his 181st and final appearance for the Bergen club.

A breakthrough in negotiations are thought to have came on Saturday and Albion are now in pole position to land the creative midfielder’s signature.

Reports in Norway claim the deal to be worth around £3.1million.

Albion appear to have beaten Spanish La Liga side Elche to the deal, despite the Spaniards holding long-term interest. Albion and Brann had an existing relationship due to negotiations to sign striker Aune Heggebo 12 months earlier.

Influential star Myhre, a seven-cap Norwegian international, has been a key man since he arrived in Brann in 2021, initially as a right-back. From there he has developed into one of the division’s star players and an icon at his club. He has helped Brann claim two league titles, to two cup finals and the advanced stages of the Europa League.

The capture of his signature would represent a coup for the Baggies for the man most claimed extremely unlucky to have missed out on Norway’s World Cup squad.

A statement from Brann sporing director Per-Ove Ludvigsen read: “We have accepted an offer from another club for Felix and he has been allowed to travel for a medical check-up on Monday. He has been an incredibly important player for Brann for many years, and therefore we want to thank him properly before he leaves.”

The club statement followed reports in the region that Albion’s bid had been accepted and the deal was to progress.

Myhre was of interest to Celtic in January and has also been on the radar of Bodo/Glimt and Brondby in Scandinavia. He has 32 goals in 180 appearances for Brann and has been a creative force with 39 assists in that time.

Baggies head coach James Morrison wants to bolster a midfielder consisting of Alex Mowatt, Jayson Molumby and Ousmane Diakite as options as it stands.

He told the Express & Star on Saturday after the friendly win at Peterborough he could not speak on any player until a deal was over the line.
