The Scotland under-21 international completed his move from Dundee United last night and will join his Baggies team-mates for training this week.

And Allan claims the chance to play Premier League football convinced him to turn down offers from the Old Firm.

"I'm really looking forward to it," Allan said. "It is a massive step-up in class.

"I've turned down the chance to play for Celtic and Rangers to play in the best league in the world. It's the best platform to showcase what I can do."

Allan was linked with both of the major Glasgow clubs while Manchester United and Liverpool were among a host of Premier League admirers.

But after he turned down a new deal at Tannadice, Albion stepped in with a cash deal to avoid becoming embroiled in a summer free-transfer auction.

Meanwhile, the agent of Egypt striker Gedo, aged 27, claims Albion and Wolves are among Premier clubs to enquire about him. Menzo Messaoudi claims he has been in contact with West Brom, Swansea, Wigan, Everton, Blackburn, Norwich and Wolves.
