George Campbell injury update and boss' message amid new West Brom contract talks

George Campbell is set to be rewarded for his improved form and standing in the Baggies’ squad.

Albion captain George Campbell has been urged to continue his impressive form after deserved new contract talks.

The central defender’s representatives had held talks with clubs chiefs at The Hawthorns about improving Campbell’s deal due to his form and standing in the squad.

Campbell, who was brought to the Baggies from Montreal in Canada in 2025, has a long-term deal until 2029 but boss James Morrison was pleased his performance level has been recognised.

The 25-year-old suffered a groin injury during Tuesday’s draw against Southampton, but it has been confirmed the setback is a minor one and will only rule the American out for a period of 10 to 12 days, and as a result just one club fixture with an international break to follow this weekend.

"I understand that there's been some talks around a contract,” Morrison said. "Which is pleasing, I think he deserves it.

“But I want George to keep concentrating on his football.

"I think he's got a few years left on his contract, it's credit to the club for recognising his performances and to reward him for his good play.

"He's in a good spot."

Campbell’s injury is not a long-term concern for the Baggies as Morrison added: "Unfortunately he picked up a groin injury, so he'll be about 10 to 12 days. It's not ideal, but not too bad.

"Hopefully it'll just be one game. I've said I'm welcoming the international break, to get a few bodies back, give us time to regroup, refocus, work on the training pitch to get better and improve on some stuff.

"But also being in a positive position.”

The skipper will miss Saturday’s home clash against Millwall to sign off the upcoming break, but there is better news on another recent absentee.

Winger Kareem Tunde missed the Saints draw due to a minor foot issue, but Morrison confirmed the Spaniard is set to make the squad against the Lions.
