Styles, Taylor and Wallace: West Brom and Millwall 'played for both' XI

We take a look at some of the best players to have played for West Brom and Millwall

Ahead of West Brom's clash with Millwall tomorrow, the Express & Star has picked a starting 11 of players who have represented both clubs over the years.

From experienced Premier League defenders and promotion winners to familiar faces who have worn the captain's armband at The Hawthorns, here is our 'Played For Both XI' for Albion and Millwall.

Goalkeeper: Luke Steele

West Brom: 2006–2008 (0 appearances), Millwall: 2019–2020 (2 appearances)

Starting between the sticks is Luke Steele, who enjoyed a brief spell at The Hawthorns before establishing himself as a regular goalkeeper elsewhere in the Football League.

The former Manchester United youngster joined Albion on loan in 2006, providing competition for places under Bryan Robson. However, he struggled to secure regular first-team football and later enjoyed a much more successful spell at Barnsley, where he became a popular figure.

Steele subsequently played for Greek giants Panathinaikos and Bristol City before joining Millwall on loan from Nottingham Forest in August 2019. His opportunities at The Den were limited, with the goalkeeper making just two appearances, both in the League Cup.

Defender: Callum Styles

West Brom: 2024–present (98 appearances), Millwall: 2022–2023 (22 appearances)

Hungary international Callum Styles joined Albion from Barnsley in August 2024, bringing versatility and Championship experience to Carlos Corberan's squad.

The left-sided player quickly established himself as a useful member of the Baggies' side, operating at left-back and further forward when required. His energy and ability to contribute in attacking areas helped him become a regular at The Hawthorns.

Styles had previously spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Millwall, making 22 Championship appearances and scoring once as Gary Rowett's side narrowly missed out on the play-offs. He also spent time on loan at Sunderland before eventually completing his move to Albion.

Defender: Sam Allardyce

West Brom: 1989–1991 (1 appearance), Millwall: 1981–1983 (63 appearances)

Better known to Albion supporters for his time in the dugout, Sam Allardyce also made a solitary appearance for the Baggies towards the end of his playing career.

The Dudley-born centre-back joined Albion as a player-coach in 1989, having previously enjoyed spells with Bolton Wanderers, Sunderland and Millwall. His only competitive appearance for the Baggies came as a substitute in a 5-1 defeat to Newcastle United in November 1989.

Allardyce had joined Millwall from Sunderland in September 1981 and spent two years at The Den before continuing his career in the United States and back in England.

He eventually returned to Albion as manager in December 2020, replacing Slaven Bilic, but was unable to prevent the club's relegation from the Premier League at the end of the campaign.

Defender: Caleb Taylor

West Brom: 2021–2025 (12 appearances), Millwall: 2025–present (45 appearances)

A product of Albion's academy, Caleb Taylor progressed through the youth ranks at The Hawthorns before making the move to Millwall in August 2025.

The centre-back joined the Baggies at under-10 level and made his senior debut against Arsenal in the League Cup in August 2021. However, opportunities were limited, and he spent time on loan at Cheltenham Town, Bolton Wanderers and Wycombe Wanderers to gain regular first-team experience.

Taylor impressed during his spell at Wycombe in 2024/25, helping the Chairboys reach the League One play-offs. His performances attracted the attention of Millwall, who signed him for an undisclosed fee as they looked to strengthen their defensive options.

Defender: Steven Reid

West Brom: 2010–2014 (92 appearances), Millwall: 1998–2003 (139 appearances)

A dependable performer during Albion's successful spell in the Premier League, Steven Reid joined the Baggies from Blackburn Rovers in March 2010.

The Republic of Ireland international initially arrived on loan and helped Roberto Di Matteo's side secure promotion from the Championship before making the move permanent that summer. Reid subsequently became an important member of the Albion defence, operating primarily at right-back under Roy Hodgson and Steve Clarke.

He had begun his professional career at Millwall, making his debut as a teenager in 1998. Reid helped the Lions win the Second Division title in 2000/01 and established himself as one of the club's most promising young players before earning a move to Blackburn in 2003.

He eventually left Albion in 2014 after four years at The Hawthorns and later moved into coaching.

Midfielder: Jed Wallace

West Brom: 2022–2026 (150 appearances), Millwall: 2016–2022 (225 appearances)

One of Albion's most influential attacking players in recent seasons, Jed Wallace joined the Baggies on a free transfer from Millwall in the summer of 2022.

The winger made an immediate impact under Steve Bruce and became an important figure following Carlos Corberan's appointment, contributing goals and assists as Albion challenged for promotion. Wallace was eventually handed the captain's armband and helped the club reach the Championship play-offs in 2023/24.

He had previously enjoyed a highly successful spell at Millwall, initially joining on loan from Wolves before completing a permanent move in 2017. Wallace helped the Lions win promotion through the League One play-offs that year and went on to establish himself as one of the Championship's most creative wide players.

After four seasons at The Hawthorns, Wallace left Albion for Bristol City in the summer of 2026.

Midfielder: Jayson Molumby

West Brom: 2021–present (196 appearances), Millwall: 2019–2020 (40 appearances)

Republic of Ireland international Jayson Molumby has become a familiar figure at The Hawthorns since arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion in August 2021.

The combative midfielder initially joined on loan before making the move permanent the following summer, establishing himself as an important member of Albion's midfield. His relentless work rate, tackling and willingness to press opponents have made him a regular under several managers.

Molumby had previously enjoyed a successful loan spell at Millwall during the 2019/20 campaign, making 36 Championship appearances and scoring once.

His performances at The Den earned him praise from supporters and helped establish his reputation in the Football League before subsequent spells at Preston North End and Albion.

Midfielder: Jason van Blerk

West Brom: 1998–2001 (109 appearances), Millwall: 1994–1997 (73 appearances)

Australian international Jason van Blerk arrived at The Hawthorns from Manchester City in March 1998, bringing experience and versatility to Albion's squad.

The left-sided player became a regular during a difficult period for the Baggies, making 109 league appearances and scoring three goals across three-and-a-half seasons. Van Blerk operated primarily in defence but was also capable of playing further forward, providing a useful option for several Albion managers.

He had previously joined Millwall from Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles in 1994 and spent three seasons at The Den, making 73 league appearances.

Van Blerk earned more than 30 international caps for Australia during his career before leaving Albion for Stockport County in 2001.

Midfielder: Frank Hodgetts

West Brom: 1940–1949 (70 appearances), Millwall: 1949–1954 (37 appearances)

The oldest name in this starting 11, Frank Hodgetts holds a special place in Albion's history after becoming the youngest player ever to represent the club.

The Dudley-born winger made his first-team debut against Notts County in October 1940 at the age of just 16 years and 26 days, setting a record that remains part of the Baggies' history.

His early career was disrupted by the Second World War, with competitive football suspended for much of the decade. Hodgetts remained with Albion until 1949 before joining Millwall for a then club-record fee of £10,000.

He made 37 appearances and scored six goals for the Lions before later continuing his career with Worcester City.

Forward: Danny Dichio

West Brom: 2001–2004 (66 appearances), Millwall: 2004–2005 (46 appearances)

A powerful centre-forward who played an important role in Albion's return to the Premier League, Danny Dichio arrived at The Hawthorns from Sunderland in 2001.

The striker initially joined on loan before completing a permanent move for around £1.25million, becoming an important part of Gary Megson's side. Dichio scored 11 goals during the 2001/02 campaign as Albion secured promotion to the top flight for the first time in 16 years.

He remained with the Baggies following promotion but struggled to maintain his goalscoring form in the Premier League, eventually leaving for Millwall in February 2004.

Dichio made an immediate impact at The Den, scoring five goals in five appearances during an initial loan spell before completing a permanent transfer. He went on to score 17 goals in 46 league appearances for the Lions and was part of the squad that reached the 2004 FA Cup final, although he was cup-tied for the Wembley showpiece.

Forward: Chris Wood

West Brom: 2008–2013 (21 appearances), Millwall: 2012 (19 appearances)

Completing the starting 11 is New Zealand international Chris Wood, who began his English football career at Albion before going on to establish himself as a prolific Premier League striker.

Wood joined the Baggies' academy in 2008 and made his senior debut under Tony Mowbray the following year. However, he struggled to secure regular opportunities at The Hawthorns and spent time on loan at several Championship clubs, including Barnsley, Brighton, Birmingham City and Bristol City.

His most successful temporary spell came at Millwall in 2012, where he scored 11 goals in just 19 Championship appearances, attracting attention from several clubs.
