Harrison Burke injury revealed after Walsall defender forced off in defeat

Darren Byfield has confirmed Walsall defender Harrison Burke sustained an ankle injury during their final day defeat at Bromley.

Burke was recalled to the team at right-back but was forced off during the first half after succumbing to an earlier knock.

Walsall went on to lose 3-1 to the newly-crowned League Two champions, as their fourth defeat in five games saw them drop to a 13th-place finish.

Burke suffers ankle injury

On the injury, Byfield added: “He rolled his ankle and it was an issue that had been playing him up before.”

In total, Burke made just 24 appearances across all competitions during his debut season at Walsall, scoring two goals.

The 23-year-old arrived from non-league Chester last summer but missed the opening two games after suffering an ankle problem during the final pre-season friendly.

He made nine league appearances upon his return - scoring his maiden goal for the club with a 1-0 victory over Salford City in late August 2025.

However, Burke was forced off with a knee injury in a 2-1 win against Bristol Rovers in early October and would go on to miss the next four months.

Burke has had a stop-start second half to the campaign since making his return in late January, but doubled his tally for the campaign in a draw at Colchester United on March 28.

Byfield sympathised with his injury challenges and hopes that Burke can hit the ground running again next season.

“Gutted for him and that’s kind of how his season has gone,” Byfield continued.

“It’s been tough for him because Harrison is someone whose attitude to the game is unbelievable.

“He gives his all every day in training and every match.

“Hopefully it’s not too bad and he gets to have a good holiday then get ready to come back and bring some success.”
