The 24-year-old has signed a two-year deal after leaving Scottish Championship side Falkirk at the end of last season.

Born in Coventry and formerly of Rugby Town, he scored 12 goals in 158 appearances over five years for the Bairns, who snapped him up following a spell at the Strachan Football Foundation.

Walsall boss Jon Whitney said: "Luke is somebody I have been looking at for the last year.

"I’ve kept tabs on him and seen a few of his games – we watched him at both of Falkirk’s play-off games in May.

“He made a great impression on me and he is someone with great potential.

“Luke used to play left-wing and he’s an attacking full-back."

He added: "When we knew he was available we leapt at the chance to bring him in.

“He likes what we’re doing here, and I’m looking forward to working with him."

Leahy insists the club's facilities really impress him and said: “I’m delighted to sign and just having a look round the place, it’s brilliant and I can’t wait to get started.

“When I used to drive home from Scotland, I always used to see the Tile Choice Stand from the M6.

“I’m really impressed with the set-up and I can’t wait to get started.
