Villa defender price not met
Villa boss Martin O'Neill today insisted no one has yet met his valuation for Gary Cahill and he is prepared to wait until the end of the transfer window until deciding his future.
Villa boss Martin O'Neill today insisted no one has yet met his valuation for Gary Cahill and he is prepared to wait until the end of the transfer window until deciding his future.
Bids have been received from several clubs including Birmingham for the £4m-plus rated defender, while there is interest from Bolton, Wigan, Derby and Sheffield United.
O'Neill says no one has yet met Villa's valuation and he doesn't want to weaken his squad by allowing him to join a rival club without signing a relacement first.
Neither O'Neill or Cahill want the player loaned out again after a successful three-month spell at Sheffield United.
"No one has met our valuation. As for a loan, it's something I would consider if we got the players in," said O'Neill.
"I understand Gary's position in that he wants to play, but I have to look after events here.
"Having done so well at Sheffield United on loan, he obviously doesn't want to stall his career.
"By the same token, I'm not in any rush and I will continue to monitor Gary's situation right up until transfer deadline.
"It also depends on Olof Mellberg's situation and I need to assess his frame of mind if he has decided to move on."
