The first of 'many' for new Aston Villa striker Nicolas Jackson

The £65million summer signing scored his first goal in the victory over Club Brugge.

Nicolas Jackson is hopeful he will enjoy “many more” Aston Villa goals after opening his account for his new club in Tuesday’s 3-2 Champions League triumph at Club Brugge.

The 25-year-old, who arrived late last month in a club-record £65million deal from Chelsea, put the visitors 3-1 up just before half-time in Belgium, latching onto Pau Torres’ long put and taking it around goalkeeper Yann Sommer before slotting into an empty net.

“It means a lot,” Jackson, who scored 11 goals while on loan at Bayern Munich last season, told uefa.com. “I saw the goalkeeper standing off his line the whole game.

“I just saw the space for my run and then Pau passed me the ball. It was perfect.

“I’m very happy to be here and happy to be with the team, manager and staff.

“Hopefully, there are many more to come.”

Villa had not experienced the best of times in front of goal prior to this match, failing to score and registering only one shot on target in three Premier League matches.

But they mustered 21 efforts in Bruges, nine on target, with John McGinn and Emi Buendia the other Villa men on the scoresheet.

Manager Unai Emery and his players will be hoping to carry the European momentum into the weekend, when they look to kickstart their domestic campaign against Nottingham Forest at Villa Park.

Jackson is not dwelling on the past and is well aware there is a long season ahead to put things right.

“Every game is different,” the Senegal international added. “We don’t care about the past, we just focus on the next one.

“Like every team, we have our ambitions. We just know it’s a long journey, so we take it step by step (and) try to win every game we play.”
