Micah Richards: I feel the pain of Villa fans

Skipper Micah Richards claims he 'feels the pain' of Villa supporters – as Tuesday's fan protest was hailed a success.

Thousands streamed out of Villa Park when the clock hit 74 minutes during the 3-1 defeat to Everton, which pushed the claret and blues closer to the relegation trapdoor.

The protest, organised by the Out the Door on 74 group, is set to be repeated in forthcoming home games against Tottenham and Chelsea.

Group member Mike McKenna said: "Our aim was to have a visible protest and that is what we got.

"It has been widely reported by a number of news organisations, we are pleased."

Richards meanwhile promised the team will 'not give up' despite relegation seeming an increasing inevitability.

Rock-bottom Villa, eight points adrift of safety with 10 games remaining, go to title-chasing Manchester City on Saturday.

Richards said: "We will keep believing. I know it's hard for everyone associated with the club, especially the fans.

"I feel their pain because Aston Villa – in this situation – it's hard to take."
