With Dean Smith’s side getting ready for a Premier League survival fight and Slaven Bilic’s men preparing for a Championship promotion push, they faced off at Villa Park and John McGinn made his comeback from a long injury lay-off.

Baggies winger Kamil Grosicki made it 1-0 to the visitors before Keinan Davis equalised for Villa.

Filip Krovinovic then put Albion back in front, with Villa skipper Jack Grealish coming up with another leveller.

McGinn was on for half an hour as the game was split into three 30-minute periods.

The two squads of 25 players plus coaching staff arrived at the stadium in their own kit and their own cars as they adhered to new protocols.

Most players managed around half an hour each.
