The Scottish midfielder majestically fired in from 25-yards in a match his team went on to lose 2-1 at Villa Park.

The awarded, which is voted for by supporters, saw the former Hibs man go up against Wednesday’s Adam Reach and Preston’s Alan Browne.

But McGinn is delighted to have scooped the gong, with the 24-year-old not used to winning awards his goalscoring exploits.

“It’s the first time I have won an award for one of my goals so I am delighted,” he said.

“As soon as I hit it, I just knew it’s going in. It’s probably the best I have ever struck a ball.

“It was nice it went in at the Holte End as well.

“There were a few great goals in the Championship last month so it wasn’t straight forward that I would win.

“I’ve never scored a goal like that so I have watched it back plenty of times and I still can’t quite believe it was me.

“It’s not my style. I’m normally tackling or chasing someone.

“The next time the ball falls for me it might end up in row Z.”
