The winger joins on a season-long loan at Villa Park, linking up with Steve Bruce having worked together at Hull City.

The winger departs West Ham after just seven months with the club, being signed by the Hammers in January.

The 29-year-old expressed his delight at joining up with the Championship hopefuls and admitted the move was an easy one to make.

"I am delighted to join.

“I have had offers from other clubs but it was an easy decision to come here. You see the name Aston Villa with all its history, tradition, fanbase and it’s a place you want to come to.

“Seeing it in the Championship doesn’t look right.

“I want to be part of that journey back up to the Premier League. I am raring to go.”

The club continued their recent trend of quirky player announcements, by tasking fans on Twitter with a picture search for the player, revealing the Scot on one of Villa Park's big screens.

He becomes the eighth signing of the summer at B6, joining the likes of John Terry, Ahmed Elmohamady and Glenn Whelan in joining the cause for the Villans.
