Alejandro Garnacho: I want to rediscover my confidence with Aston Villa
The winger has become the club’s third signing of the transfer window.
Alejandro Garnacho says he has joined Villa to get his career back on track.
The 22-year-old winger believes working with Unai Emery gives him the best chance to regain the confidence which once made him one the brightest prospects in the Premier League.
Garnacho has joined Villa on an initial season-long loan which includes a conditional option to buy, less than a year since moving to Chelsea from Manchester United for £40million.
The Argentina international struggled for consistency at Stamford Bridge, scoring just one Premier League.
And he has now joined the Europa League winners, eager to prove the doubters wrong.
“I was looking for a club to get confidence and to try to be the player I was in my first years at Manchester United,” he explained.
“I spoke with the manager and I think he will give me the confidence to be here and to help the team.
“I can’t wait to start. I feel like it is an important club which is growing quickly.”
Emery is a long-time admirer of Garnacho and wanted to sign him last summer, before he left United.
The Villa boss then pushed to complete his signing this time around after selling Morgan Rogers to Chelsea in a British record £117m deal.
Garnacho has agreed the terms of a four-year contract at Villa should the conditions of the obligation to buy be met.
He said: “I saw the Europa League last season and now we’re joining the Champions League; it’s important to be a part of this.
“I spoke with Unai before I came here and he gave me confidence. That’s why I’m here.
“It’s important to play in European competitions. The Champions League is the best one, so we’re going to play in that this season.
