Aston Villa eye England international swoop after suffering midfielder blow

Villa are considering a loan move for AC Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek as they try to fill the void left by Boubacar Kamara.

Loftus-Cheek has emerged as a target following the news Kamara is likely to miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

The 29-year-old England international has made 90 appearances for Milan since joining them from Chelsea in 2023, featuring in all but two of their Serie A fixtures this season.

Villa are in the market for a midfielder after the blow of losing Kamara and concerns over captain John McGinn, who is still being assessed for the knee injury he sustained in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Everton.

Boss Unai Emery missed out on Conor Gallagher earlier in the window after the 26-year-old instead joined Tottenham from Atletico Madrid.

Emery also wants to add a striker and Villa have been pushing to sign Tammy Abraham, who is currently on loan at Besiktas from Roma.

Villa, who allowed forward Donyell Malen to join Roma earlier in the window, have also confirmed the recall of winger Leon Bailey from his season-long loan at the Italian club.

Bailey will be available to play in Sunday’s Premier League match at Newcastle.
