Kidderminster Harriers announce forward's exit amid double injury blow
Kidderminster Harriers have announced the departure of forward Jason Adigun after just three months with the club.
The 21-year-old’s contract has been terminated by mutual consent following talks between the player and boss Adam Murray.
In a further blow, Harriers will be without defenders Pierce Bird and Alex Penny for several months due to injury.
Bird is expected to miss between four and five months after undergoing surgery on a knee injury, while Penny is facing an extended spell on the sidelines as he manages a back issue.
“We’ve had some honest conversations this week (with Alex) because, ultimately, he has to look after his long-term health as well,” said Murray.
“Especially with his back, we can’t put him in a position where he’s risking his health, so there are a lot of decisions to be made on that one. It’s a big loss for us.”
Adigun, who signed for Harriers following his release by Dagenham and Redbridge, was among Murray’s first signings after taking charge at Aggborough.
But the Charlton academy product has struggled to settle in the Midlands and approached Murray, expressing his unhappiness.
Murray explained: “Jason, being away from home, doesn’t feel comfortable here and has been honest about that. He came to me and was really upset.
“It has started to really affect his mental state, being away from home and not playing the way he knows he can play.
“One thing I’m never going to do is stop somebody feeling happy. Football goes out the window, and we’ve had some long conversations.
“Ultimately, we’re doing what’s best for Jason. As a football club, we’re not going to stand in his way.”
Adigun departs having made six appearances for Harriers in National League North. Murray’s team are back in action on Saturday when they host Radcliffe.
