Walsall management duo Chris Hutchings and Martin O'Connor today signed new contracts with the Saddlers.

The pair, whose deals were due to expire at the end of the season, have penned one-year rolling contracts at the Banks's Stadium.

Chairman Jeff Bonser has moved swiftly to tie them down and says it was vital for the club's stability to seal their futures.

"We are very pleased to have secured the long-term future of both Chris and Martin," said Bonser. "The board of directors have been most impressed with the way in which they have gone about their business since joining the club in January.

"They are building for the future and we felt that it is important to secure their services. A rolling contract gives both parties security and will enable Chris and Martin to continue their good work."

Hutchings succeeded Jim-my Mullen in January and was joined by Saddlers legend O'Connor as his assistant.

They guided the club to 13th in League One last season and currently sit 10th, three points outside the top six.

"I am delighted to have signed this new deal," said Hutchings.

"I have enjoyed my work here so far and am excited by what the future holds for this football club.

"The infrastructure that is in place here is fantastic and I believe that we have an excellent platform on which to work from as we strive to take the club forward."

O'Connor added: "This is a club very close to my heart and I have enjoyed working with and learning from Chris."
