Work underway on transformation of library
Work has now begun to transform a Grade II listed library building into a new community hub.
The first phase of works on Low Hill Library in Wolverhampton will see the heating system updated as well as adding a new children's centre and nursery.
Self-service facilities will be added, which will allow people to borrow books outside of the library hours.
The community hub project will also see the building redecorated as well as the addition of new IT equipment.
Tony Blakeway, chairman of Low Hill Community Association, said: "We are all looking forward to the improved premises and to developing new ways of working with our partners, strengthening relationships and offering greater opportunities and services for all local residents and agencies."
The library will be relocated to the community centre around the corner while the refurbishments are taking place.
Phase one is scheduled to finish in June when the library will reopen in its permanent home and extensive renovation work to modernise the children's centre and the community centre will begin.
A community garden will be developed in Jenks Road as part of the first phase of work, which will link the library to the children's centre. The library will remain open while these changes are being made.
