'Poppies can be worn in all our pubs': Wetherspoon denies poppy ban after veteran wearing badge 'refused entry' to pub

The man was reportedly told that the poppy 'could be a political symbol' by Wetherspoons staff, sparking outrage among veterans and supporters of the Royal British Legion.
A man has claimed to have been removed from Wetherspoons while wearing a remembrance poppy, with the manager of the pub saying the poppy “could be perceived as political.”
The incident took place yesterday (October 26) at Gosport Wetherspoons where Councillor George Madgwick was allegedly told to leave Wetherspoons for wearing a remembrance poppy.
The manager was caught on video saying it’s a “blanket policy” and the same is said to people who arrive wearing pride flag badges.
The pub manger also said: “It’s fair for everybody, it’s blanket.”
Wetherspoons have since denied the claims and comments from the manager saying: “poppies can be worn in all Wetherspoon pubs.”
