An autism assessment practice has opened a new clinic in Stafford designed so that children and adults can come for an assessment without the noise, crowds and other elements that could be triggering for an autistic person.

The clinic has opened in Dunston, on the southern edge of Stafford, and was chosen with sensory needs in mind.

The Neurodiversity Service, an independent autism and ADHD assessment practice for children and adults, was founded in Shropshire and opened the Stafford clinic on September 21. All assessments there are carried out in person by the practice’s clinical director Dr Charlie Bamford, a clinical psychologist, and Greg Grainger, an occupational therapist.

Dr Bamford said: “An assessment can be a big day, and often it’s everything around it that’s hardest: finding the building, sitting in a busy waiting room, the lights, the noise. We wanted somewhere people could arrive calmly and just be themselves, because that’s when we get to know them best.”
