A Spitfire is scheduled to fly over the West Midlands this weekend.

A Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) is scheduled to fly over the West Midlands this weekend.

The Flight operates five Spitfires, two Hurricanes, a Lancaster, a C47 Dakota, and two Chipmunk aircraft (primarily for training).

A Spitfire is scheduled to fly over Stoke Prior Steam Rally at Little Intall Fields Farm between 10.20am and 10.50am on Sunday 20 September.

A BBMF flypast was also scheduled for the rally on Saturday 19 September, however, in a post on social media, organisers said they have been informed this is unable to take place due to the potential for high winds.

Organisers added that the BBMF are hopeful that, weather permitting, the Sunday flypast should still be able to go ahead.

The flights can be altered or cancelled due to poor weather conditions or other requirements.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) operates from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. The Royal Air Force write: “The mission of the RAF BBMF is to maintain the priceless artefacts of our national heritage in airworthy condition in order to commemorate those who have fallen in the service of this country. The RAF BBMF also serves to promote the modern day Air Force and to inspire the future generations.”

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight has displayed at a number airshows and events this summer. In addition to the full displays, the BBMF also conducts up to 900 flypasts each year to make the most of the flying hours and transits to and from display locations.

The display season runs from May to September each year, with pre-season work-up flying for the crews taking place during April, culminating in Public Display Approval being sought for each pilot from the Air Officer Commanding No 1 Group.
