Watch: Work continues to remove vegetation for West Midlands motorway link

The work is continuing to clear vegetation and prepare land around the M54 ahead of work on the M54 to M6 link road.

New images and video have shown the work going on to clear an area around the M54 as part of work on the M54 to M6 link road.

In the video, taken by Express & Star chief photographer Tim Thursfield, the grass verges on either side of the M5 Junction 1 have continued to be cleared of grass and trees due to vegetation clearance work.

The project is also seeing overnight closures on the westbound carriageway from Junction 10a on the M6 to Junction 2 between 10pm and 5am, which are running until November 11, as well as a Bridleway being closed on the edge of Hilton Cross Business Park until November 30.

A spokesman for National Highways said: “Our preparation for main construction activities is due to continue with vegetation clearance, utility diversions and environmental mitigation.

“To support delivery of these works we'll need to close some local roads and Public Rights of Way and put diversion routes in place.

“The M6 junction 10a to M54 junction 2 will be closed westbound between October 26 and November 11, with this closure taking place in collaboration with our regional operations team and COLAS.

“This is to reduce the impact on road users of multiple closures in the same area over a sustained period.

“The Featherstone 3 Bridleway will be closed until Monday, November 30 as we need to close this bridleway, which runs around the edge of Hilton Cross Business Park.

“Please remember that closures can change at short notice.”
