Broken-down lorry on southbound M6 causes delays near Junction 10

Part of the southbound M6 near Walsall has become blocked after a lorry broke down on the motorway.

Delays of more than 40 minutes and building have been reported on the southbound M6, just after Junction 10, near Walsall, after a lorry became stranded.

The incident was reported by West Midlands Roads at 7.34am today (Thursday, November 20), with lanes blocked as a result.

Delays of more than 20 minutes were being reported at around 7.30am.

West Midlands Roads said: "M6 southbound, just after Junction 10, Walsall.

"Lanes blocked. Stranded lorry. Delays of around 20 minutes. Minor disruption."

However, at around 8am, the southbound slip road onto the M6 at Junction 10 was also closed, with delays of around 40 minutes.

National Highways West Midlands officers have closed the slip road onto the M6, with drivers warned to expect 'delays on local routes'.

A statement said: "Highways officers have closed the southbound entry slip onto the M6 from Junction 10 island.

"Expect delays on local routes around the motorway island, and routes towards Junction 9 around Walsall as traffic diverts."

The roads authority warned of five miles of congestion on approach, with 40 minutes of delays being reported.

The group said at 8.26am: "Two of four lanes are closed on the M6 southbound between Junction 10 for Walsall and Wolverhampton, and Junction 9 for Wednesbury, due to a broken-down HGV. 

"Recovery services are in attendance. Delays of 40 minutes on approach with five miles of congestion. 

"Please allow extra journey time."
