Rail passengers to expect delays due to defective tracks between Wolverhampton and Birmingham

Rail passengers have been warned to expect delays on services between Birmingham and Wolverhampton due to a speed restriction being put in place.

The restriction was put in place at 1pm on Monday due to defective tracks being discovered between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street.

It meant that train services would be delayed by up to five minutes and disruption was expected to be in place until 4pm.

A spokesman for West Midlands Railway said: "Due to a speed restriction over defective track between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street, trains have to run at reduced speed on some lines.

"Train services running through these stations may be delayed by up to five minutes and disruption is expected to last until around 4pm today,

"We expect some of our trains to be affected by this incident.
