All lanes reopen on M5 after fallen tree damages road sign near Birmingham

A fallen tree damaging a road sign has leading to heavy delays on the M5.

National Highways West Midlands have said that all lanes of the M5, between Junction 4 (A38, Bromsgrove and Stourbridge) and Junction 3 (A456, Halesowen and Birmingham), have reopened following an earlier incident.

Two lanes of three were initially closed at around 12.05pm today, with the roads authority, National Highways West Midlands, warning of delays of up to 45-minutes, and congestion of four miles, at the time.

Now, all lanes have been marked as clear, with the roads group saying that delays are easing. 

A National Highways West Midlands spokesperson said: "Cleared. M5 north between Junction 4 and Junction 3.

"All lanes open. The fallen tree has been made safe. Delays clearing."

There were 45-minute delays at the time of the incident, with National Highways West Midlands saying that repairs will now need to be made to the affected road sign.

At the time of the incident, a highways spokesperson said: "M5 north between Junction 4 and Junction 3.

"Two lanes of three are closed due to a fallen tree, which requires removal. The tree has damaged a road sign, requiring repair.

"45-minute delays, four miles of congestion."
