Stafford Asda worker praised for ordering coat for pensioner who struggles online

Emma ordered it online to the store from her personal account and called the customer to collect it.

A staff member at Asda in Stafford has been praised for helping a pensioner get the coat they wanted.

Emma was approached by a woman in her 80s who wanted help to find a stone-coloured raincoat she’d seen online when she visited the Asda Living store in Stafford as she ‘doesn’t shop online’.

But when the customer was disappointed to not be able to find it in store, Emma ordered it online to the store from her personal account and called the customer to collect it.

Explaining the situation, Emma said: "I showed the lady some of the coats we had, but she was adamant that she wanted the one she'd seen online. She said she didn't order online so I ordered it for her myself to get the coat into the store.

“When it arrived we kept it in the back for her and I gave her a call. I don't like to see anyone struggle, especially the older generation who sometimes don't trust using their bank card online. She was over the moon when she picked up the coat."

Asda say the customer reimbursed Emma for the cost, but Emma’s actions have been praised by her manager and online as she went the extra mile.

Store manager Sue, who nominated Emma for an Asda service superstar award, said: "It was absolutely lovely thing to do, outstanding, but that's our Emma! She will do anything to help the customer. She's a little star."

In the comments on the supermarket’s Facebook post, an Asda customer added: “Now that's what you call customer care.” Another commented: “It’s little acts of kindness like this that can make the world a better place.”
