More roadworks were today announced for Wolverhampton, leaving drivers fuming about the number of schemes kicking off in quick succession.

The latest batch will see delays on the busy Wergs Road in Tettenhall, which is to undergo up to four weeks of major resurfacing work.

The announcement follows the launch of other projects in the city, including the £200,000 six-week scheme along Ring Road St John's and others in Compton Road, Bridgnorth Road and Hordern Road, Whitmore Reans.

Council chiefs say the aim of the Wergs Road work is to reduce noise.

Plans are still being finalised but it is expected the disruption will be between the start of Wergs Road at The Rock up until the junction of Keepers Lane and Woodthorne Road.

Wolverhampton City Council spokeswoman Felicity Roberts said: "The details have not been finalised at this stage due to ongoing consultation with residents.

"This work will take place at night for three to four weeks towards the end of February. The work has been planned to take place at night to minimise disruption. During the day, up until 7pm or 8pm, the route will not be affected."

Tettenhall councillor Jonathan Yardley said today the project would benefit residents in the long run, but pledged to monitor noise. He said: "I'm sure some residents will be upset when they hear this work is taking place overnight and will be worried about the disturbance."

Delivery driver Joe Osborne, aged 53, from Wombourne, said: "I can't believe even more roadworks are starting on another busy road.

"They're already causing me and others a lot of headaches, not to mention time and money, and we could be doing with a bit of a break."
