A rare Marvel comic is set to go to auction in Lichfield on November 2 with a predicted sale price of between £1,000 and £1,500.
The sought after comic is a copy of ‘The Avengers #1’ which was published in 1963 and will be auctioned at Richard Winterton Auctioneers in Lichfield.
The rare comic is in “extremely good condition for its age” and is among a single-owner collection of approximately 700 comics which are to be sold across 30 lots in the same auction.

A spokesperson for Richard Winterton Auctioneers said: “This wonderful collection came to us following an email valuation enquiry and is a super example of how getting in touch can uncover some truly special items.”
This issue is widely considered a ‘Mega Key’, which is a term in comic collecting used to describe iconic and usually very expensive issues.
The comic introduces a concept which fundamentally changed the entire comic book industry forever, and comes from the period of intense artistic advancement in the medium and explosive mainstream popularity.

“The Avengers remain a massive global household name thanks to multi-billion-dollar multimedia franchises. Interest in the original 1963 The Avengers #1 comic book remains exceptionally high because it features the very first team appearance and the origin story,” the auctioneers added.
