The Birmingham and Black Country Wildlife Trust said approving plans to build 115 homes at Longwood Lane would ‘represent a step backwards’.

The proposal is set to go before a government planning inspector next week after the applicant, William David Homes Ltd, lodged an appeal.

The plans were refused by Walsall Council in June on the grounds that it would be an inappropriate development on the green belt, an increase in traffic, as well as issues around wildlife habitats and trees.

At the enquiry on December 2, William David Homes hopes to prove to the inspector that the proposal will deliver ‘significant benefits which demonstrably outweigh any harm’.
