Rooftop street food venue in Walsall submits planning application after sudden closure due to ‘immediate risk’ to public safety
Plans have been submitted for a Walsall rooftop street food venue which was shut down last month for operating without permission.
The Rooftop Food Court in Walsall opened earlier this year on the top of the Asda multi-storey car park at George Street.
The venue was an instant hit with revellers, offering street food from over a dozen vendors, an outdoor cinema, 400 parking spaces and seating for 350 people.
But Walsall Council issued a temporary stop notice to the owner which stated the activities posed an ‘immediate risk’ to public safety.
In the retrospective planning application it says the site had been blighted with vandalism, graffiti, rough sleepers and drug paraphernalia.

Applicant Easy Park said the underused rooftop had been transformed into a vibrant, safe and inclusive leisure space supporting the evening economy in Walsall.
The site is located within the Church Hill Conservation Area, but the applicant said due to the car park’s utilitarian character the venue does not impact the protected zone.
The development involves 16 modular food units, a courtyard area with seating and silent cinema, the introduction of soft lighting and planters. Operating hours are 5pm to 11pm.
Easy Park said between vendors, cleaning and security staff, over ‘over 100 jobs’ have been created.
Walsall Council is expected to make a decision in January 2026.
