New road named in memory of much-loved Staffordshire 20-year-old

The driveway provides the main access to the sports and social club

A new driveway at a Staffordshire sports club is to be officially named in memory of a much-loved young man who died in a road collision.

Gnosall Family Sports and Social Club will officially open Sam Myatt Way on Saturday, September 26, in memory of 20-year-old Gnosall resident Sam Myatt, who died following a road traffic collision in January 2019.

The newly resurfaced and restructured driveway provides the main access to the sports and social club and the ground it shares with AFC Gnosall.

Members of the community, AFC Gnosall and the sports and social club have worked together to raise funds for the project, which aims to create a more welcoming entrance for families, players and other visitors.

The work has been made possible through fundraising and donations from members of AFC Gnosall, Gnosall Family Sports and Social Club and John Forrester.

Sam Myatt Way will be officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the club at 12pm on Saturday, September 26.

The ceremony will be followed by an afternoon of activities for the community, with bouncy castles for children, games for all ages and a barbecue.

Organisers have invited people from across the community to attend and help mark the occasion.

Sam's memory is already celebrated through sport in the village.

The annual Gnosall 10K road race features the Sam Myatt Trophy, which is presented each year to the fastest young finisher aged 20 or under.
