Ultra-rare Mercedes-Benz could fetch more than £235,000

One of the rarest cars to come from the masterminds of AMG is going under the hammer.

This Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG is one of just 100 examples built to celebrate the German firm winning the 2003 DTM championship – the German Touring Car Masters.

While many may be more familiar with the hard-core CLK Black Series of the same generation, the DTM was even more extreme than that – and has been described as one of ‘the most radical and exciting’ cars AMG has ever built.

Take one glance at it and you’ll immediately see that it’s something pretty special. Although the CLK outline is familiar, it’s graced with hugely blistered wheel arches to house wider tyres, while a large rear spoiler gives it a link with its track-going brethren.

This race car-like feel carries on into the cabin too. A plethora of carbon-fibre highlights can be found throughout, while an Alcantara-wrapped square-shaped steering wheel takes centre stage in front of the driver. Oh, and there’s an unmissable roll cage too.

It’s certainly not a case of all show and no go, though. Powering the DTM AMG is an uprated version of the 5.4-litre V8 found in more potent versions of the car, here developing 582bhp – which lets it hit 60mph from a standstill in just 3.7 seconds before going on to a 199mph top speed.

This particular 2005 example has spent its life in Germany, covering just 13,500 miles with two owners from new. It’ll be offered by RM Sotheby’s in Essen this coming Friday, with an estimated sale price of up to £236,000.
