'I saw a man lying in the road' - Eyewitness gives shocking account of Sedgley crash

The condition of the pedestrian has not been officially confirmed

"I heard a big bang so I got out of my car and saw a man in the road just lying there all bloodied up."

That was the shocking scene witnessed by a local takeaway delivery driver after a collision involving a pedestrian on Dudley Street in Sedgley on Thursday afternoon (June 4).

Emergency services were called to Dudley Street shortly before 5pm, with police closing the road alongside Vicar Street while investigations took place.

Faz, who was parked nearby at the time of the incident, said he rushed from his vehicle after hearing the impact.

"I know he has gone to hospital. He had blood coming out of his head and he must have been hit hard because you can see the damage to the windscreen. He was quite a big guy," he said.

The crash prompted a major emergency response, with the road remaining shut for several hours as officers examined the scene.

Faz said: "I've still had deliveries to do but the road has been closed since 5pm. I think they have been doing some forensic work."

Motorists faced disruption throughout the evening as police continued their enquiries and carried out investigations at the scene.

West Midlands Roads warned drivers to expect delays and advised people to avoid the area while the closure remained in place.

The condition of the pedestrian has not been officially confirmed and enquiries into the circumstances of the collision are ongoing.

Emergency services have been contacted for a comment.
