The crews from Wyre Forest and Droitwich Fire Stations were called to reports of the fire on the ground floor of a building on Oxford Street at around 11.37am.

Three crews arrived at the scene and tackled the blaze, which was at the back of the former Wilko building, with breathing apparatus and hosereels, and had the fire out by 1.15pm, with crews continuing to dampen down.

A spokeman for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Three Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews, two from Wyre Forest and one from Droitwich Fire Stations, were called at 11.37am on October 8 to a building fire on Oxford Street in Kidderminster.

"A fire on the ground floor of a property was fought by four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using two hosereels. Dampening down took place. Police were also in attendance.

"There are no casualties but Oxford Street is blocked in both directions. The incident has been marked as stop but crews are currently still at the scene."

The road remained closed into the afternoon, with Diamond Bus Midlands putting out an update to passengers about diversions to services.

A spokesman for Diamond Bus Midlands said: "Due to there being an incident in Kidderminster Town Centre, our services are diverting via New Road and Kidderminster Ring Road.

"Bus Stops by Barclays Bank and Oxford Street cannot be served at the moment."
