Celebrated Netflix actor returns to his Wolverhampton primary school to open library
Actor Omari Douglas has returned to his former Wolverhampton primary school to open its new library.
Claregate Primary School welcomed Omari - known for his roles in Netflix's Black Doves and Channel 4 drama It's A Sin, among others - for the event after weeks of work to create the new reading area.
He joined, pupils, staff and new headteacher Lee Davis-Powell to cut the ribbon and let children see the new library for the first time.
Mr Davis-Powell said: "We are thrilled to announce the opening of our brand-new library at Claregate Primary School.
"Reading is at the heart of everything we do, and our dedicated staff have worked tirelessly to create a calm, comfortable, and enriching space where children can immerse themselves in the magic of books.
"Reading is not only a vital life skill, but it is also a gateway to a lifetime of enjoyment. By fostering a love of reading from an early age, we aim to inspire our pupils to read for pleasure throughout their lives."
Omari, 31, was nominated for a Bafta for his role in It's A Sin in 2022, and was also in the 2023 movie Rye Lane on Disney+, as well as the West End production of A Little Life alongside James Norton.
"We were honoured to welcome Omari Douglas, a former Claregate pupil and now a celebrated actor, to officially cut the ribbon at our grand unveiling," added Mr Davis-Powell, who succeeded Wolverhampton's longest-serving headteacher Mick Murphy in the summer. "Omari truly embodies our school motto, 'Inspiring tomorrow, today…' and has certainly done that during his visit.
"He spent time in every classroom, answering questions and sharing his journey—a true superstar and an inspiration to all our children."
