Woman frees herself from house fire in Walsall which started accidentally during cooking

A woman freed herself from her home after a house fire in Darlaston started accidentally during cooking.

West Midlands Fire Service were called to an incident at Park View in Darlaston just before 5pm on Thursday, August 14.

The two-storey semi-detached property had a fire in its ground-floor kitchen which was tended to by crews from Wednesbury and Bilston.

A woman who was in the house when the blaze started managed to exit the house before the fire services arrived at the scene, but suffered no injuries.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "Shortly before 5pm on Thursday 14 August, we responded to Park View, Darlaston.

"A fire engine from Wednesbury and a fire engine from Bilston attended, arriving to find a fire in a ground-floor kitchen, in a two-storey semi-detached property.

"The fire, believed to have started accidentally during cooking, was contained to the room of origin and was extinguished using a hose reel.

"A woman freed herself from the building before we arrived at the scene and was given a precautionary check-up by paramedics. It's believed she was discharged at the scene.

"We left this incident at 7.05pm."
