Tesco has advised any motorists who have concerns over refuelling at the supermarket chain's Littleton Street West filling station in Walsall to get in touch immediately.

Motorists reported issues with their vehicles after using a pump at the Tesco Extra station on Friday (October 10), with some left out of pocket when their cars began malfunctioning.

Speaking to the BBC, Donna Keenan, from Walsall, said that her car started making "all sorts of noises" after filling at the station, before finally breaking down.

She said she was rescued and taken to a nearby garage, and later told that the car had been filled with diesel instead of petrol.

She told the BBC: "After filling the car, I drove around half a mile up the road, and as soon as I turned into a side road, my car started to make all sorts of noises.

"I managed to get to work before my car came to a standstill. Once I got out of work, I tried starting my car, but nothing would work."

Tesco has confirmed that the petrol station was closed following concerns over the fuel tanks, adding that while it was investigating the problem, no other issues have been found with other fuel tanks from the site.

The company urged any drivers with concerns after refuelling at the site on Friday to contact the customer services team on 0800 323 4040.

A Tesco spokesperson said: "The petrol station at our Walsall Extra store has now reopened following its temporary closure last Friday, and we are sorry for the inconvenience.

"We ask any customers who have concerns after refuelling at this site on Friday morning to contact our customer services team, who will be able to help."
