Black Country MP is delighted to be part of Burnham’s new cabinet
Black Country MP Pat McFadden said he was delighted to be part of Andy Burnham’s new government after being reappointed to his role as Work and Pensions Secretary.
Mr McFadden, MP for Wolverhampton South East, was called into Downing Street last night (Monday) where he was asked by the new Prime Minister to remain in his role.
He has held the post since September last year, having previously served as Work and Pensions Secretary.
“I’m very pleased to be part of the new cabinet,” he told the Express & Star.
“We have started some important work over the past year in creating more opportunities and work for people and I’m keen to continue that over the next period now that the cabinet has been completed.”

Mr McFadden said he hoped his reappointment would provide some stability and continuity in the department.
“It’s an honour to serve in government in any position, but I’m pleased to be continuing in the same post because it takes time to get to know the job,” he said.
“Having been there for almost a year already, it means I can continue with the work I have been doing.”
Mr McFadden said he was impressed by the start that the new prime minister had made to his role.
“I think he’s had a really good start, I have known Andy Burnham for about 25 years, he’s a very open and engaging person, you can see that from his public statements,” he said.
“I will do everything I can to support him and make his prime-ministership successful.”
