Ideas sought on £1m cash boost for village
One million pounds will be spent on improving parks and other public areas in a village thanks to a lottery cash boost it has been announced today.
Brereton near Rugeley has been given the cash from a £200m pot of funding being dished out by Big Local – a Big Lottery programme.
An application was made by villagers in Brereton to the bosses at Big Local last year but it is only now that they can go public with the news that the money is coming Brereton's way.
They are now asking residents what they would like the money to be spent on.
Sue Merriman, support worker for the Brereton Million project team, said: "We're handing out flyers to all the homes in Brereton to tell people about this and about the events where they can say how they want the money to be spent.
"We're asking people two questions. What they like about Brereton now and what they would want to improve on.
"Everyone likes Ravenhill Park. Its our only main park. We could spend money on improving the park or on providing things for teenagers to do."
The Brereton Million team is hosting a number of events to gauge public opinion on how the cash should be spent.
Once they've done that they'll put a local plan together and send it off to Big Local before it is approved. The money will finally be spent in 2014/15.
The main event for people to find out about the £1m grant is A Day in the Life of Brereton on December 14 where pubs, churches and sports club will be taking part.
