The woman wrote on Facebook: “Has anyone lost a corn snake today? I found one on Emsworth Crescent around 3:20 in the road.

“It looked like it had been hit by a car, it had blood coming from its nose.

“I caught it and took it to the vets.”

One user commented: “Bless you for rescuing this poor snake, hope it survives and can either find its owner or be rehomed.”

Corn snakes are not native to the UK and are popular exotic pets.

They are non-venomous constrictors that kill their prey by squeezing rather than using venom.

They are considered harmless to humans, often docile, and make popular pets, though they may bite if threatened.
