Hospitals in Birmingham and Wolverhampton will be among 34 hospitals to participate in the Patient Activation, Counselling and Exercise (PACE) programme, which examines the impact of infections on patients with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML).

The study aims to understand prior Covid-19 infections in AML, look at the health implications of the virus on patients, collect information on the seriousness, type and frequency and provide recommendations on care and treatment.

The study is part of treatment providers Cure Leukaemia's national expansion plans, which includes investing £3,000,000 in 12 blood cancer centres across the country.
