Gospel Oak School, which is part of the Central Region Schools Trust, is celebrating what it has called a period of remarkable transformation following its latest Ofsted inspection, which recognised significant improvements across key areas of school life.

The inspection, carried out on September 30 and October 1 at the Tipton school, confirmed that the school is now rated ‘Good’ for Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, Leadership and Management and Sixth Form Provision.

Inspectors stated that "pupils and staff agree that Gospel Oak School is a school that is transformed" and described how pupils feel "proud to have been a part of that change by meeting the school’s expectations, developing positive attitudes and treating each other with respect" and how the school has "high expectations" and is "ambitious" for pupils’ futures.

While rated 'Requires Improvement’ for Quality of Education, the school said the positive progress made across all other judgement areas marks an impressive turnaround for the school, which has undergone a comprehensive programme of improvement since its previous inspection.

Inspectors highlighted many strengths across the school, including a positive shift in behaviour, highlighting that pupils "behave well" and that the school is "a calm place where pupils feel safe", while the report also praises the ‘warm relationships between pupils and staff’.

Pupils’ attendance is "strong", and their enjoyment of a "range of activities" across the curriculum means they "feel a deeper sense of belonging to the school".

While the report marks a step forward for the school, the school said staff will continue to build on this momentum and also support initiatives to strengthen the quality of education.

Stephen Brownlow, executive principal, said: “This report is a testament to the hard work, determination and belief of everyone at Gospel Oak School, our pupils, staff, parents and carers and wider community.

"We are incredibly proud of how far we have come and remain absolutely committed to continuing our journey of improvement so that every pupil can achieve their very best.”

Guy Shears, chief executive of the Central Region Schools Trust, said: “Gospel Oak School’s transformation shows what can be achieved through strong leadership, high expectations and a relentless focus on pupils’ wellbeing and success. Central Region Schools Trust is immensely proud of the progress made and will continue to support the school as it builds on this success for the future.”
