Crooked House campaigner celebrates birthday with cake and quirky hat as group marks three years since fire
Friends from Crooked House campaign give local campaigner a birthday cake
It’s been three years to the day since the Crooked House burnt down, and the iconic Himley pub is only more sorely missed as time goes on.
Tony Jefferies has been a long-time campaigner for the re-building of the pub and wants people to appreciate its long history in the community. He has turned heads with an impressive miniature model of the famously wonky building attached to a hard hat.

The fire at the Crooked House on August 5, 2023, was the day after Tony’s birthday and this week, to help mark his 77th birthday and the anniversary of the fire, fellow campaigners got him a cake presented to him at the site where the pub previously stood.
We re-united with Tony, wearing his hat, for the occasion.
Tony, a retired electrician, said he appreciates the great friendships he has made through the campaign groups.
He said the chocolate cake he received from the campaigners was only the second one he has ever had.
For Tony, the cake represents the special relationships that he has made from his connection to the former Himley pub.
Tony said: “It was my birthday on the Friday, and it burnt down on the Saturday.
“People who I met at the Crooked House, and who I’m still friends with to this day, I can’t thank them enough.
”It’s got me relationships, as far as I got a community club. I’ve done a load of work there, I’ve met friends there. There’s people who I still contact on the ‘net.
“I’m stuck for words.”
