West Midlands Police has launched the appeal and issued a CCTV image of a man it said it wants to speak to following the incident, which happened in the early hours of New Year's Day in Digbeth.

The force said it wanted to speak to the man in the image after a man required hospital treatment for a broken jaw and has asked for anyone with any information to get in touch.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Do you recognise this man? We want to speak to him after a man's jaw was broken in the early hours of New Year's Day in Digbeth.

"The man was assaulted at a venue in Lower Trinity Street at around 1.30am on January 1 and he needed hospital treatment for his injuries.

"Investigators have been working to identify who is responsible and are now releasing this image of a man they want to talk to.

"We know the image is grainy, but he is wearing fairly distinctive trousers and we believe if you know him, you'd recognise him.

"So if you can help call 101, or message via Live Chat on our website, quoting crime reference 20/100185/26."
